Last week, our analysis of racial and gender residuals in fatal police shootings revealed White women had the highest rate (2.75), with observed counts exceeding expectations. To gain a deeper understanding, I visualized this data in two ways by Python: first, a time series showing the number of White women fatally shot by police from 2015 to 2024, and second, a histogram depicting the age distribution of these women. The histogram illustrates the concentration of shootings within particular age groups
After fluctuating between 22 and 28 incidents per year from 2015 to 2020, the number of shootings involving White women peaked at 34 in 2021. This was followed by a steady decline to around 20 incidents in 2024
The histogram reveals that the age distribution of White women involved in fatal police shootings is concentrated around 30-40 years old.
This week, my partner and I started assigning reports.
